Privacy Policy for CalorieLens

Effective date: July 26, 2026

CalorieLens (“the App”, “we”, “us”) is an Android application published under package name com.slakhera.caloriesai. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using CalorieLens you agree to the practices described below.

Summary

CalorieLens does not require you to create an account and does not operate its own backend server or user database. Your profile and nutrition data are stored locally on your device. The App only sends data to third-party services (listed below) when a specific feature — like AI meal recognition or barcode lookup — needs it to work.

Information We Collect

1. Profile information you provide

When you set up your calorie plan, the App asks for: sex, age, height, weight, activity level, and your weight goal (lose / maintain / gain). This information is used only to calculate your daily calorie and macronutrient targets and is stored locally on your device using Android’s DataStore. It is never uploaded to a server we operate.

2. Meal photos (Camera)

If you use the “scan a meal” feature, the App captures a photo using your device camera and sends it to Firebase AI Logic (Google Gemini) for food recognition and calorie/macro estimation. The image is processed by Google to return results to the App; we do not separately store or retain a copy of your meal photos on any server we control.

3. Barcode scans

If you scan a packaged food’s barcode, the barcode is first read on-device using Google ML Kit (no image leaves your device for this step), and the scanned barcode number is then sent to Open Food Facts, a free public nutrition database, to look up product information. No personal profile data is included in that request — only the barcode number.

4. Health & fitness data (Health Connect)

If you grant permission, the App reads your active calories burned and total calories burned from Android Health Connect to help track your daily energy balance. This data is read-only, used solely within the App to display your progress, and is not shared with any third party.

5. Notifications

The App can schedule local meal-reminder notifications on your device. These reminders are generated and delivered entirely on-device; no data is transmitted to us or anyone else to create them.

6. Purchases and subscriptions

Premium features are purchased through Google Play Billing. Payment details (card numbers, billing address, etc.) are collected and processed directly by Google — the App and its developer never see or store your payment information. We only receive confirmation of your entitlement status (e.g., whether a subscription is active).

7. Device integrity signals

The App uses Firebase App Check (Play Integrity) to verify that requests to Firebase come from a genuine, unmodified copy of the App running on a genuine Android device. This exchanges device/app integrity signals with Google but does not identify you personally.

8. Analytics and advertising

CalorieLens does not integrate any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not sell or share your data for advertising purposes.

How We Use Information

Information described above is used only to:

How Information Is Shared

We do not sell your personal information. Data is shared only with the service providers needed to deliver the features above:

Feature Third party Data sent
Meal photo recognition Google Firebase AI (Gemini) Meal photo
Barcode product lookup Open Food Facts Scanned barcode number
Purchases Google Play Billing Purchase/subscription request
App integrity Google Play Integrity / Firebase App Check Device/app attestation signal
Calorie burn Android Health Connect Read access to calories-burned data

Each of these providers processes data under its own privacy policy.

Data Storage & Retention

Your profile, calorie goals, and logged meals are stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the App, or clearing its storage in Android Settings, permanently deletes this data from your device. We do not retain copies on any server we operate.

Your Choices & Rights

Children’s Privacy

CalorieLens is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Security

We rely on Android’s app-sandboxed storage and Google’s infrastructure (Firebase, Play Billing, Health Connect) to protect data in transit and on your device. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to use industry-standard practices.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised “Effective date.” Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
